Saturday we had Ethan's first "true" birthday party. Year one we were in Cambridge and it was more of an adult party than a child's as not many other kids were in attendance. Same for year number two, although he got it a little bit that the party was for him. Still, it was mainly an adult gathering. Year number three was a low-key affair since we had just arrived back in Denver from the UK just the evening before and we just celebrated it with the Quiroga's on the low-down. So, year number four was a bit more improtant to the boy. I mean, this kid was gunning for this day before we even left Denver in August. He was practically counting the days two months prior! Poor kid really had no real grasp of time and couldn't really understand that we had a ways to go before the big day.
I think that the day surely didn't disappoint and he was rewarded with eight other kids running around, a blow-up bouncy castle (courtesy of our neighbors Larry and Shauna Bowden), a pinata and, of course, cake!
Oh, and for the pinata... Since the little guy has a birthday so close to candy day, I mean, Halloween, we figured it wasn't the best idea to fill the thing with candy. So, instead we enlisted the resources of Dr. Larry (our neighbor who happens to be a dentist!) and filled it with.........get this..........
toothpaste, toothbrushes and floss!!!! The kids loved it. Ethan even spontaneously fell into a rapturous and emphatic session of frantic brushing - right there in the garage! You gotta love 21st century youth! "I don't want candy! Give me something healthy!!"
All in all, a great little party for the boy. Lots of fun had!
