Just a small difference between American English and 'old' English...

Since we have been here it has been a real struggle yet a bit amusing deciphering the language. Just yesterday, driving (on the wrong side, mind you) listening to the BBC, they were talking of how many 'jabs' the kids would need this year... HUM, 'jabs' is a hillarious word for 'shots'. Just like Band Aid is 'sticking plaster', while having my hair cut, my stylist says, 'Would you like a fringe?' - er he means 'bangs'.
A flashlight is a torch, trash is rubbish, a truck is a lorry, a simple doctor's office is a surgery (which really freaked me out when we first got here and I needed a doctor and everyone insisted I go to surgery), the don't say, 'go to the hospital' they say, 'go to hospital' - how is that?!
Exits on the motorway are junctions, when we say 'fanny pack' they laugh because a 'fanny' is a slightly vulgar word for woman's genitalia, the trunk of a car is a 'boot' - therefore the highly, sought after car boot sales... the hood is a 'bonnet', ladybug is a 'ladybird', stroller is a 'pram', senior citizens are 'pensioners' - which sounds like they are living off the dole - Anyway, I could go on and on...
